
The Kabutongan Falls is located in Barangay Looc, Malabuyoc. Trekking to the falls is an adventure in itself. In fact, it is a trek not advisable for beginners since you have to go up slippery slopes and negotiate waist-deep waters. There are also areas where you have to swim across pools of water and hop on boulders the size of small houses.
Kabutongan Falls trek is one of the most magical adventures on the island of Cebu. The trail follows the blue waters of a narrow stream up the canyon until you reach Kabutongan Waterfall. Here you will find a hidden cave behind the waterfall and several different cliff-jumps!
But, if you have your mind set on reaching the falls, you should make the necessary preparations. You may even need a life vest if you are not quite confident of your swimming skills. It is also highly recommended for you to get the services of an experienced tour guide who is familiar with the area to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.
There are some smaller pools where you can take a dip in on the way to the main pool of the falls. A high stone wall covered with foliage surrounds the main pool of the Kabutongan Falls. Trekking to the falls may be more of an extreme adventure, but once you reach the place all the weariness will gradually go away. Seeing the beauty of the Kabutongan Falls and taking a dip in its crystal clear waters is guaranteed to soothe your tired muscles.
HOW TO GET THERE?
You can get to the Kabutongan Falls by getting on a bus headed for Malabuyoc at the Cebu South Bus Terminal. The trip takes around four hours depending on the traffic. After reaching the town, you can hop on a tricycle or a motorcycle for hire to reach the jump-off point for the falls where you can hire a guide and rent a life vest. Trekking to the Kabutongan Falls will take around an hour or so.
